How do I clean my Pour-Over Coffee Pot and Cream & Sugar Set?

For best results, rinse immediately after use with warm water to remove coffee oils and residue. If a hand wash is needed use a mild dish soap and soft sponge or cloth Don’t use abrasive pads—they can dull or scratch the ceramic glaze. Rinse thoroughly, making sure all soap is gone to avoid any soapy flavour in your next brew. Air-dry or towel dry with a clean cloth. If you see white chalky spots (hard water buildup) let all parts soak in a mixture of white vinegar and water (1:1 ratio) for 15–20 minutes. Rinse very well afterward and dry completely.

How much coffee and water should I use?

The classic golden ratio is 1:16. (1 gram of coffee per 16 grams (or ml) of water). For one 12 oz (355 ml) cup, use 21–23 grams of coffee (about 3–4 tablespoons) If you don’t have a scale, use 1 rounded tablespoon per 5 oz of water. Adjust to taste! More coffee = stronger brew. Less = milder.

How much cream and sugar does the set hold?

Do I need a filter? What kind is best?

Yes! You need a #4 cone filter for the Matheson Pour-Over, we recommend a Hario V60 filter. For best results, pre-wet you paper filter before brewing. This will warm up your dripper and carafe and helps the coffee drip through more evenly. To do this step, place the paper filter in the top part of the Pour-Over and place over the sink or bottom carafe. Pour hot water through it, enough to soak the whole filter. Dump the rinse water from the carafe before brewing.
