Do I have to season the Matheson 10" Cast Iron Pan?
No! Unlike most other cast iron products, Matheson does the work for you! Your Matheson 10" Cast Iron Pan comes pre-seasoned ready to cook with! For your first use: pre-heat the pan and try cooking a protein with fat or using a small amount of high smoke point oil.
How do I clean cast iron without ruining the seasoning?
To clean your pan right after cooking, wipe out crumbs or leftover food with a paper towel. For any stuck-on bits use a sprinkle of coarse salt and lemon juice. Avoid soap if possible, but a little mild soap now and then won’t hurt a well-seasoned press. Dry it completely, either by air or a towel, then apply a very thin layer of oil and heat it up briefly to maintain the seasoning for next time.
Can I use cast iron on a glass stovetop or induction?
Yes, but we have a few tips! Be careful not to drag the pan on glass stoves as it may mark the glass. Cast iron can heat up quickly and stay hot for longer than regular pans so be mindful of burning yourself or the food!
How long does cast iron last?
Decades. Centuries. Basically forever. Well-cared-for cast iron can be passed down through generations. Even rusty, beat-up pans can be restored with a bit of elbow grease and seasoning.
Can I use metal utensils on cast iron?
Yes! Once your seasoning is built up, metal utensils won’t hurt the surface. Scraping with a spatula can even help smooth out the seasoning. Just avoid sharp knives, or gouges.
