Well-designed kitchen items become staples of our homes—left out on the counter, used daily, never put away. We designed our Butter Crock with this in mind.
First Use
Your Matheson Butter Crock is ready to use straight from the package. A light rinse to remove any packaging fibres is all that's necessary before first use.
To fill the Butter Crock, pack softened butter (about two sticks) into the small inner cup, leaving a little space at the top to prevent it from touching the water. Fill the larger base with about 1/4 cup of water, then invert the lid into the base. The water will rise to seal the butter and prevent spoilage. Replace the water every few days to keep it fresh.
Washing
Empty out any remaining butter and pour away the water. Wash both porcelain parts with warm water and mild dish soap. Avoid abrasive scrubbers to prevent scratching. Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap. Do not use a dishwasher, as high heat may crack the porcelain.
Drying
Let your Butter Crock air dry completely before refilling. Residual moisture may affect butter texture or cause odours.
Stains & Smells
To deep clean, soak both parts in a 1:1 mixture of white vinegar and water for 15–20 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely before reuse.
