To prevent food from sticking, preheat the grill press before use. A hot press will help form a nice sear without sticking. You can also use a small amount of oil or butter on the food or on the grill press itself, especially for lean meats or sandwiches. You can also season your grill press to develop a natural non-stick surface over time, much like with a skillet.

How to safely clean my grill press without ruining the seasoning?

Right after cooking, wipe out crumbs or leftover food with a paper towel. For any stuck-on bits use a sprinkle of coarse salt and lemon juice. Avoid soap if possible, but a little mild soap now and then won’t hurt a well-seasoned press. Dry it completely, either by air or a towel, then apply a very thin layer of oil and heat it up briefly to maintain the seasoning for next time.
