Pour-Over Coffee Set Care

Finishing off your morning brew just how you like it is an essential part of the ritual of making coffee. We designed our Pour-Over Coffee Set with this in mind.

First Use

Your Matheson Pour-Over Coffee Set along with the Crean & Sugar Set are ready to use straight from the package. A light rinse to remove any packaging fibres is all that's necessary before first use.

Brewing with the Pour-Over Set

Stack the grooved cone piece on top of the smooth ceramic pot. Insert a #4 paper cone filter—we recommend the Hario V60. Add medium-ground coffee to your taste. The classic golden ratio of coffee grounds is 1:16 (1 gram of coffee for every 16 grams or ml of water).

For a 12 oz (355 ml) cup, use 21–23 grams of coffee (about 3–4 tablespoons). If you don’t have a scale, use 1 rounded tablespoon per 5 oz of water.

Slowly pour hot (not boiling) water in a circular motion over the coffee grounds to saturate them evenly. Continue pouring until you reach the desired amount, being careful not to overfill. Let the coffee drain into the pot below, then remove the cone and place the lid on the pot to serve.

Washing

Rinse immediately after use to remove coffee oils. Wash all parts with warm water and mild dish soap. Avoid abrasive scrubbers, which can dull or scratch the ceramic glaze. Rinse thoroughly to prevent any soapy taste. Do not use a dishwasher, as high heat can damage the ceramic.

Drying

Towel dry or air dry all parts completely before using again.

Stains & Smells

To remove chalky marks, oil residue, or odours, soak the set in a 1:1 mixture of white vinegar and water for 15–20 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and dry fully before reusing.
