Ease of access, functionality, and a design beautiful enough to live on your table — that's what we aim for in every Matheson kitchen product. The Pepper Mill and Salt Cellar are no exception.
First Use
The Matheson Pepper Mill and Salt Cellar are ready to use right out of the box.
To fill the Pepper Mill, pour peppercorns into the built-in funnel. It holds about 1/4 cup. Only use black or brown peppercorns — other spices may clog or damage the grinder. Once filled, gently place the metal topper into the hole.
To fill the marble Salt Cellar, add approximately 1/2 cup of your preferred salt or seasoning. Stack the wooden lid on top, followed by the Pepper Mill.
Adjusting the Grind Size
The Matheson Pepper Mill features a fully adjustable grind setting, located on the underside of the grinder.
- Turn the dial clockwise for a finer grind.
- Turn the dial counterclockwise for a coarser grind.
We recommend adjusting the grind before filling the mill for easier access, but it can also be adjusted while in use.
Washing
Wipe the exterior of the Pepper Mill and the wooden lid with a damp cloth. Do not soak, rinse, or put any part in the dishwasher.
To empty the pepper mill, remove the topper and turn the mill upside down to release any remaining peppercorns. Grind it until it's clear of dust.
For the Salt Cellar, wash with mild soap and warm water. Do use a dishwasher.
Drying
Air dry or towel dry the Pepper Mill exterior. Place the Salt Cellar upside down and allow it to dry fully before refilling.
