A great kitchen tool should be versatile—something you reach for every day because it’s built to be useful and made to last. We designed our Kitchen Stick & Bowl with this in mind.
First Use
Your Matheson Kitchen Stick comes pre-oiled and ready to use straight from the package. A light rinse to remove any packaging fibers is all that's necessary before first use.
Washing
Wash the Kitchen Stick and Bowl using cold or room temperature water and mild dish soap.
The Stick is sharp, so we recommend using a deep sponge or the included brush for safety. If food becomes stick in the juicing grooves, use a toothpick to remove compacted residues.
For the wooden Bowl, avoid soaking, submerging, or using the dishwasher, as high heat and moisture can damage the wood.
Drying
Air dry both items completely. Place the Bowl upside down. Avoid wiping the Stick with a cloth, as the sharp edge may catch or tear the fabric.
Stains & Smells
If the Bowl develops stains or odors, scrub the area with coarse salt and lemon juice or white vinegar. Rinse and let the Bowl air-dry upside down. Avoid chemical cleaners or bleach as they may dry out or discolor the wood.
Protecting & Oiling
Once the Bowl is clean and dry, apply a small amount of food-safe oil such as Walrus Oil. Use a cloth or your hands to rub the oil evenly into the wood. Apply more oil as needed to ensure full coverage.
Allow the Bowl to air dry upside down. After several hours, wipe off any excess oil with a clean, dry cloth.
Repair
If the Bowl shows deep marks or scratches, gently sand the affected areas using fine-grit sandpaper (320–800 grit), always moving in the direction of the grain. Wipe off any dust with a damp cloth, then reapply oil as described above. Allow the oil to soak in overnight before buffing away any excess. Routine sanding and oiling will keep your Bowl in great shape for years to come.
